1 Year in Texas

Happy for the Mortons, but sad for us. The Mortons have been in Texas for exactly one year.

Grandma and I are so glad the Mortons are doing well and flourishing in the Lonestar state, but we miss them so badly it physically hurts. You can literally feel the longing in your heart for those grandchildren. There is an aching that can only be cured by their presence. FaceTime, text messages, and phone calls are all well and good, but are no substitute for holding them in your arms and hugging and kissing them.

Congratulations on your one year anniversary, Mortons. We love you all very much!

Snow

We've had almost no snow this winter... Praise the Lord! We have been blessed so far. Unlike this guy who was stuck at home with his kids when school closed for two days. Some people are so creative!

Challenger Disaster

34 years ago today the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded shortly after liftoff. All seven astronauts aboard were killed. I still remember where I was when I heard the news. I was a fry cook at Long John Silvers and I had stopped in that morning to pick up my paycheck. My coworkers told me the terrible news. I was a freshman in college at the time.

The left lane

Attention ALL drivers! The left lane is for passing only. Repeat... the left lane is for passing only. It is NOT a cruising lane! Repeat... it is NOT a cruising lane!

Tami and I are astounded (and infuriated) daily by left lane drivers. The number of people who lallygag down the road in the left lane is mind boggling. Slow drivers in the left lane are the WORST!

Please, for the love of Pete, get out of the left lane. I am not prone to road rage, but a man's patience has its limits.

House Managers

The democrats wrapped up their case against President Trump. And I use the word "case" loosely. These is NO case. Period. There is not a chance in heck the Senate will vote in a two-thirds majority to remove the President. What a colossal waste of time and taxpayer money.

And so it begins...

And so it begins...

The Senate impeachment trial started today. The democrats are already hollering that the process is not fair. Ummmm... you mean like how fairly the President was treated by the House of Representatives? Keep yelling, Democrats. You don't have a case, and you know it. Thank you again for ensuring President Trump's re-election.

The Trial

President Trump's impeachment trial begins tomorrow in the US Senate. I can't wait until Trump is acquitted of all bogus charges. This whole thing has been a joke, a sham, and a political hit job. The Democrats are STILL throwing a toddler's temper tantrum over the 2016 election and have tried to undermine our President at every turn. I challenge any of my readers to name one thing President Trump has done to warrant impeachment. Name one crime. Name one felony or misdemeanor that is worthy of impeaching this duly elected sitting President. Go ahead. I'll wait.............. Tick Tock Tick Tock. What's that sound? Crickets? Hmmmm... the fact is this President has done more for this nation than any President since the late, great Ronald Reagan. Isn't it strange how two of the greatest President's our country has ever had were not lifelong politicians? Reagan was an actor, and Trump was a businessman.

Honestly, I can't wait for the trial to get started. The sooner it starts, the sooner it will be over. Thank you, Democrats for pulling this shameless stunt. You have all but guaranteed Trump's re-election.

TRUMP 2020!

Poor ol' Bert! He sure hit some hard times after his longtime buddy, Ernie, moved away.

I'm BACK!

Sorry, folks. I was gone for a couple of days. Busy times at school as well as caring for a sick wife kept me away from the blog. I should be back to posting later today or maybe tomorrow. Thanks for hanging in there with me. However, I suppose your day isn't too badly affected if you don't see a post in this little corner of the blogosphere. Check back later for more fun from "Silence Runs Deep".

Still down!

Day three of the flu for Tami and there has been no improvement yet. This is a particularly nasty strain and it is definitely NOT a 24 hour variety. Tami has been in bed and out cold for two solid days. I am praying for some improvement tomorrow. I don't think Tami has ever been this sick before.

The Flu

The flu has stricken the Meyer house. Tami came home from work last night feeling very ill. She went to the doctor this morning and tested positive for the flu. She has the A strain. She is miserable!

Appropriately the doctor prescribed Tamiflu.

Get well soon, honey.

AW Tozer

Love these quotes by A.W. Tozer...

Oops!

It is now being reported that the Ukrainian 737 that crashed in Tehran was accidentally shot down by an errant Iranian missile. I wonder how you say oops! in Farsi?

You missed! (on purpose???)

Further research reveals the Iranians may have intentionally missed American targets in order to avoid U.S. retaliation or a full scale war. In other words, they may have wanted to appear to strike back with force while not really intending to hit anything or inflict major damage or casualties. Also... in a baffling move, the Iranians did NOT target the airbase that housed the most U.S. troops. If the Iranians were serious about "teaching us a lesson", don't you think that would be their primary target? It all seems really fishy. Appearing to fight back, but not really putting anything at risk. Think of it this way... you throw a snowball at the neighborhood bully, but intentionally miss him by a mile. This gives the appearance to your friends that you are standing up to the bully and fighting back. In reality you want nothing to do with fighting the bully. I am not stating any of this as fact. It's just speculation and conjecture on my part after reading a news article.

Furthermore, a passenger jet from Ukraine crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran, Iran. I'm not into conspiracy theories, but it sure is suspicious that a plane belonging to a nation that is friendly with the U.S. crashed in Iran mere hours after this missile attack. Maybe it's just a terrible coincidence, and this truly is a tragic accident. But what if it's not? What if it's a cowardly way of striking back at the U.S.? The report I read said Iran is refusing to turn over the flight data recorder (black box). Why would they want to keep that a secret? If it was just an accident, what is the problem with investigators from other nations having access to the data? Once again, this is really fishy.

Just something to think about this morning, everybody. No facts to back any of this up, but it certainly deserves consideration.

You missed!

Well, last night Iran decided to hit back in response to our missile strike earlier in the week. They fired 15 missiles at U.S. airbases in Iraq. Essentially, they missed! Twelve hours later no American casualties have been reported. That doesn't mean there weren't any, but if there had been mass casualties, it would have hit the news by now. Iran has now poked the bear. NOT SMART!

Listen, folks. Nobody wants a war. Nobody wants our men and women of the military in harms way. Nobody wants an escalation that would lead to the death or injury of our troops. But unlike previous administrations, President Trump will not sit idly by while Iran attacks our embassies, harms our citizens and threatens our allies. If you punch us in the nose, we will punch back and take you down.

I am praying this morning for our nation, for our President, for our troops, and for the safety of any U.S. citizen or ally in the region. May God bless the United States of America.

Back to the grind

Well... it's back to the grind this week after a long Christmas vacation. Please be patient as my posts may be sporadic for a little while. School gets to be a very busy place after Christmas.

To tide you over, I will tell you one of my favorite jokes (courtesy of my wonderful son-in-law, Thomas).

Why do Norwegian warships have barcodes on their sides?

So when they return to port, they can scan-da-navy-in! (Haha! Scandinavian)

Goodbye, Sam

My favorite Bengals coach died on Tuesday. Sam Wyche passed away at the age of 74. He led the Bengals to the Super Bowl in 1988. He was a good man and a good coach. Below is his most iconic moment...

Church Shooting

There was a shooting last week at a church in Texas. The gunman killed two people before being killed by Jack Wilson, a gun carrying member of the church. The gunman was neutralized less than six seconds after firing his first shot. Imagine what the death toll would have been if there had been a law against carrying guns in Texas churches (there is no such law). Imagine how many people would have likely died if the gunman had been permitted to fire at will at an unarmed congregation. Losing two innocent lives is two too many, but things could have been SO MUCH worse. In this case a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun. This is why the 2nd amendment is so very important. Armed citizens are safe citizens. Gun control laws do not work. Gun control laws only produce soft targets and allows for mass murders and massacres. Good for you, Texas! You got this one right!

Happy New Year

It is 1:00 in the morning on January 1st, 2020. Tami and I cannot remember the last time we were up this late.

Happy New Year, everyone!
