My Dad

On August 31st, 1990, my dad died at the young age of 47. 31 years ago today, I, as a 23 year old kid, lost my dad to leukemia. It seems like a lifetime ago, but also seems like only yesterday he was here. I won’t say I think about him every day, but I do think about him a lot. I especially think about him when I’m fishing, enjoying a beer, or when I am driving a boat. These are all things he enjoyed, and things I enjoy today. It's hard to believe it has been so long. I miss you, Dad!

Line of the day

We are in the midst of a heat wave. My classroom is on the top floor of a poorly air conditioned building (Translation= The air conditioner doesn't work, but we are told that it does). My room is 84 degrees and I'm wearing a mask breathing in my own hot air. Tomorrow the weather is forecasted to be even hotter. The kids are miserable, and I am miserable. And there is sadly no relief in sight. This brings me to the line of the day from one of my students. Here it is verbatim--- "Mr. Meyer, I feel like I'm being cooked!". Yep! I couldn't agree more. Me too, child. Me too!

I have been away

Folks, I am so sorry I have not posted in nearly a week. The beginning of the school year is super busy, and I honestly haven't had the time for blog posts. Stick with me... I will be back very soon!

Goettafest

We went to Goettafest on Saturday. This was the star of the show for me. Goetta patties and cheese sandwiched between two glazed doughnuts. Diet? What diet?

A work of art

I took this photo of an unusual water plant while on vacation. I have no idea what it is, but it's very pretty. I am posting the photo because it looks like a work of art. Make no mistake. I am no photographer, but I just got a lucky shot.
