The worst day!

It's here! One of the worst days if not THE worst day of the year... Halloween.

I have never liked Halloween. The reasons would bore you to tears. All I know is I am going to be so happy tomorrow when it's all over for another year.

More kneeling

I continued my practice of not watching NFL football yesterday. The majority of the Houston Texans knelt during the National Anthem. Their protest was for a different reason this time, but that is not important to me. All I know is you have millionaire football players disrespecting our flag, and our country. This is completely unacceptable to me. I must not be alone either. Ratings for NFL games are way down. People are turning their backs in droves and the effect is significant.

I had a great day yesterday and I watched zero football. I didn't miss it one bit!

Oreos

My dad loved Oreos dunked in milk. I'm not sure how he'd feel about these.

Pumpkin Contest

Each class at school was given a pumpkin and asked to decorate it. My 4th graders chose a Bengal theme. Here's their handiwork. The other side has the 50th anniversary logo. You know I'm not big on Halloween, but I thought I'd show this off anyway.

Give it a rest!

Our President continues to be unfairly criticized and pummeled by the mainstream media (CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC). I wouldn't have a problem with the criticism if it were fair and there was equal criticism of the liberals. This is not the case. Bias in the news is a huge problem and that's why I am so thankful for alternative news sources. Thank you Breitbart, Gateway Pundit, Fox News, and Chicks on the Right. I certainly appreciate your voices of reason in a world where the goal of the media is to destroy Trump. They gave up report driven journalism long ago and traded it for unadulterated attacks on the President. Hmmmm.... I think the American people are wise to this and completely sick of it. Hillary wonders what happened? I think we ALL know what happened. The basket of deplorable is more numerous than Hillary thought, and not nearly as stupid as she thought.

No Football

Do you know what NFL stands for?

Not For Long--- That's how much longer I'll be a fan of the sport if players keep kneeling during the National Anthem.

No Football Lately--- Describes how much football I've watched this season.

Never For a Loss--- of things to do while I'm NOT watching football.

I can't find it!

If I couldn't find something when I was a kid, my mom would usually look for it and find it rather quickly. When she did find the object, she would say one of two things... "Here it is. If it was a snake it would have bit you!" or "Here it is. You look like I used to!" I'm still not sure what that one means. Nowadays instead of my mother finding my lost stuff, Tami does it. When she does find it, she often mimics what my mom used to say. Either way, it's kind of embarrassing for someone to quickly find an object that you swore you looked really hard for.

And by the way, I didn't know it then, but I should have corrected Mom's grammar. The proper retort would have been, "If it was a snake, it would have BITTEN you!" But come to think of it, it's probably a good thing I didn't correct her. She would have knocked my teeth down my throat (another one of Mom's favorite phrases).

Apples

Have you ever heard the saying, "Don't upset the apple cart"?

Well... This apple cart spilled 56,000 pounds of apples.

Serious Golf!

Some guys take their golf very seriously! Even the wildfires out west weren't enough to scare these guys off.

Gimme a sign!

The guy in the white car praying...

Are you there God? I need proof that you exist. Just give me a sign!

God's reply...

Okey-Dokey! Here ya go!

Sinbad!

Tami and I went to see Sinbad on Friday night. In case you don't know, Sinbad is a fairly famous comedian from the 80's and 90's. Today I would describe him as past his prime, but still hilarious. In the past we have enjoyed his TV specials and thought it would be fun to see him in person. He did a full two hour show (that's a lot for a stand up comedian). Parts of the show lagged a bit. Not because it wasn't funny, but because he decided to interject some political commentary into the show. It basically sucked the air out of the room, so it didn't take him too long to realize his opinions weren't going to fly here in middle America. Once he decided to get back to comedy, the show went much better.

The show was at the Lawrenceburg Event Center, so Tami and I decided to get a room at the hotel that is right there in the same building. It was nice to walk out of the show and just take the elevator to our room. It would have only been a 15 minute drive home, but something about a hotel room makes you feel like you're on vacation a thousand miles from home.

On Saturday morning as we were checking out of the hotel, guess who we saw in the parking lot? Yep, there he is... Sinbad.

You know...

You know you're getting old when you are teaching the children of your former students. This has been going for quite some time, and I am not far off from teaching the grandchildren of former students. That is just insane to think about. But how do you know when you're really getting old? When you start calling your current students by their mothers' names. I have two fourth graders this year whose mothers were in my class over 20 tears ago. I keep calling them by their mothers' names. Sheesh! It's embarrassing!

Remember when?

Remember the days when going out on a weekend meant leaving the house well after dark and returning home in the wee hours of the morning? Ahhhh... good times! Those were the days when sleeping until noon was considered normal behavior. Nowadays we eat at 4:00, have our pj's on by 7:00, and are dozing in our easy chairs by 8. Times sure have changed!
