Anybody who knows me, knows I love storms. They are absolutely beautiful and really exciting to watch.
So this morning, Jessi made my day. She sent me a video from Houston where some pretty good storms rolled through earlier. But that's not what made my day. What made my day was the fact that Elliott moved the couch in front of the window, and all three of my grandchildren sat in the dark and watched the beauty of God's creation in a thunderstorm. I am one proud Goppa this morning. Many kids are afraid of storms. Not my grandchildren! They rearrange the furniture to get a better view!

We're "PUZZLED"
How are we passing the time during this stay-at-home order? Well, at first we were eating everything in sight. And that was not good for us because we were eating out of boredom, and not because we were hungry. We like to take walks to get some exercise, but the the weather has been so iffy, and walking is not always an option. So, we needed to come up with something else. Our solution? Jigsaw puzzles! Tami completed 3 or 4 on her own, and then I decided to get in on the act. Here is the progress on our first joint venture:

Joe Burrow
The Bengals drafted Joe Burrow tonight. This promising young quarterback is coming to the vast wasteland known as Bungle Land. Poor kid! He had such a bright future, and now he comes to Cincinnati to die a slow, painful death.

Back in my day...
To say the world is a different place than when I was a kid would be a massive understatement. I know every generation can make the same statement. Here's my version. Back in my day...

The mail is here
This is 100% true! Our mail truck has a very distinctive sound, and we hear it every day.
Oh yeah, and the same goes for the school bus that stops across the street every day. The brakes have a very distinctive squeal.

This is me!
This is totally me! I love storms. I think they are absolutely beautiful. Don't get me wrong. I never want to see anyone's property damaged, and I never want to see anyone injured or killed. But the storms themselves are very cool!

Today in history
Today in history, April 14th...
April 14th, 1865- President Abraham Lincoln is shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth in Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.
April 14th, 1912- RMS Titanic hits an iceberg and sinks in the North Atlantic Ocean leading to the most famous shipwreck story in maritime history.
Today Pete Rose turns 79. A slug of a human being, but one of the greatest baseball players of all time.
April 14th, 2020- Mick Meyer is stuck indoors due to a stay-at home order in response to the Corona Virus. Silence Runs Deep celebrates surpassing 100,000 page views.
April 14th, 2020- The world has been turned upside down, and nobody really knows if/when things will get back to normal. Maybe the world will never again be like we knew it. Perhaps we are in line for a new normal. This happened after World War II, after the 9/11 attacks, and maybe now after the outbreak of the Corona Virus.

Major Milestone
Today Silence Runs Deep hit a major milestone. As of this morning, I have received 100,000 page views. I have no idea who is reading this blog. I have no idea how often people check in. In fact, I have no idea why anybody even reads it. Regardless, there are people reading, so I guess I'll keep posting. 100,000 page views? Wow! I never would have believed it.

Happy Easter
Happy Easter from the Meyers. Just thought I'd share this photo of the Mortons. I must say, those are the strangest looking Easter bonnets I have ever seen! ***And note *** Asher is having NONE OF IT!
He is Risen!
He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!
Today we celebrate our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. He who rose from the grave and conquered sin and death.
Christ the Lord is risen today. Alleluia!

Taxes
If it weren't for the Covid 19 crisis, Tuesday would be tax day. As it stands now, tax day has been postponed until July 15th.
And speaking of taxes... Don't you think the government could make the tax code easier to follow?

I miss the Reds
You know you're spoiled when your biggest problems in life are being stuck at home under quarantine, and there is no baseball to pass the time. I sure do miss the Reds!
Not only that, but I also went to the zoo to boo the Cubs and the Tigers. And just for good measure, I booed the Bluejays, and Orioles too!

Back at it
We were back at it again today. We only caught one catfish, but it was a pretty good one. It looks like the student has become the master!

We are underway
The fishing season is underway. There is no way we are going to let the corona virus stop us. Our favorite spot produced some whoppers yesterday.

Passing the time
Here in Hidden Valley Lake, folks are struggling with what to do with themselves during this lengthy stay-at-home order. We are not unlike tens of thousands of other communities around the nation. Yesterday someone had the good idea of having an impromptu sidewalk chalk event. Everyone was invited to draw something and then post their address on the community message board. Yesterday evening folks were invited to drive around and look at everyone's artistic creations. I didn't draw anything in my driveway because nobody wants to look at a bunch of stick figures. However, Tami and I did drive around to check out what other people did. Here are a few that we saw:

Snoring
I tend to snore... a lot. Unfortunately snoring doesn't bother the sleeper, it disturbs the person next to you who is NOT sleeping.

Stir Crazy
Yesterday Governor DeWine extended the stay at home order until May 1st. There are only so many indoor activities a person can do. You can only watch so much television. You can only clean out so many closets or organize so many cabinets. You can only clean your house so many times. In fact, a person can go downright stir crazy. Thank goodness this crisis is happening during a time when the weather is turning nice. This would be so much worse if we were inside our homes in December when it gets dark at 5:00, and the weather is really cold. At least in April we can get outside, take a walk, do some yard work, or even go fishing. Soon this will all be over and it will be nothing but a memory. Let's all hang in there. We can do this!
