Hammerhead

March 30, 1981... 40 years ago today I caught my famous (only in my own mind) hammerhead shark. I was 14 years old on a spring break trip to Pompano Beach, Florida with my family. My dad chartered a fishing boat for us and I caught a 7'9" hammerhead shark weighing in at 138 pounds. It was a real thrill! Why do I remember the date so easily? It's because this all happened on the same day President Ronald Reagan was shot. I can't believe this was 40 years ago.

Pack your bag!

Three years ago, when the grandchildren still lived in Indiana, they were preparing to come and visit us. Jessi told the boys they could take some toys, but were responsible for carrying them on their own. Elliott, always up to the task, took his mother at her word. He promptly packed an entire suitcase of toys and lugged them to the car. It was hilarious then and it still is today.

Killer Toys

Remember Jarts? Lawn Darts?

Yeah, nothing like arming kids with steel, sharp tipped missiles to throw in your opponents direction. What could possibly go wrong? Kids are always cautious, right?

I all seriousness, I played this game as a kid and nobody ever got hurt. I don't remember tossing Jarts in any manner other than for what they were intended. The object of the game was to toss these missiles into a plastic ring at the other end of the playing area. Kind of like Cornhole, but with sharp projectiles instead of beanbags. Sometimes I long for the old days!

Growing Up!

It's hard to believe Asher was ever this little! He starts Kindergarten in the fall, but he is already in his momma's homeschool and is on his way to reading.

Old Babies!

I happened upon this collection of photos. The photos are not doctored. They show babies that look very much like crotchety old people! Hilarious!

A sign of spring

It's the second week of March. The "Spring Forward" time change happens on Sunday morning. Signs of spring are starting to appear. Temperatures are warming up. The chances of snow and ice dwindle with each passing day. Days are getting longer, and nights are getting shorter. I actually saw some daffodil shoots popping up from the ground this morning. These are all sure fire signs of spring, but I have encountered one this morning that really makes me happy. I am wearing a long sleeve shirt at work and I am burning up! Tomorrow I make the swith back to short sleeve polo shirts. These shirts are cooler, and MUCH more comfortable. Spring is on its way ladies and gentelemen! I can't wait!

Cancel Culture

The cancel culture is out of control. Any person or product that dares run counter to the radical left wing agenda gets "cancelled". Aunt Jemima syrup, Land O' Lakes butter, Uncle Ben's Rice, (all viewed as racist), and now Dr. Seuss and Mr. Potato head. Dr. Seuss, really? Yes, it's true Dr. Seuss was an artist in the army that produced anti-Japanese propaganda cartoons, but hey, we were at WAR! And Mr. Potato Head? Heaven forbid we should have gender specific labels. It's all so RIDICULOUS!

A kettle of hawks

A large flock of hawks (called a kettle) settled in the trees across the street from our house tonight. There were at least 60 of them, but it was likely more because there were a bunch in the trees behind some other trees (out of my sight). It was a noisy, amazing sight.
