November- The month in review
I think we could all agree that 2020 has been a strange year. A year like no other we ever seen in our lifetimes. November, true to form for 2020, has been a very strange month.
The month began with much enthusiasm. On November 3rd, my mom celebrated her 76th birthday? 76? There is no way my mom is THAT old. She acts so much younger than that! Also, on November 3rd, our nation went to the polls to cast votes for President of the United States. As of this moment, the election has not been certified. The news media would have you believe that Biden defeated Trump. There is no way this is true. Voter fraud ran rampant in this election, and I am confident it will be uncovered, proven, and in the end, The Supreme Court will install Donald J. Trump as the rightful, and duly elected President of the United States.
Shortly after the election, on November 5th, my lovely and wonderful wife tested positive for COVID. It really knocked her off her feet, but being the trooper she is, she continued working from home and only took one sick day. That is commendable! As a result of Tami’s illness, I was forced to quarantine for 2 weeks. This was devastating to me on a number of fronts. First, as a teacher, missing two weeks of school is really difficult on the kids and on my colleagues. Second, it ruined my perfect attendance record. I had perfect attendance at work for more than 20 years running. It was hard on me to miss work when I was completely healthy. I know it was out of my control, but it still crushed me to miss all that school for basically nothing.
The middle of the month was spent battling COVID and navigating a government-imposed quarantine. What a drag!
The end of the month brought the Thanksgiving Holiday. The original plan was to have a large gathering at our house. That plan was scrapped after COVID struck the Meyer Family. It became obvious that I could not risk another exposure and ensuing quarantine. Therefore, Tami and I went through the strangest Thanksgiving ever. We stayed home and had Thanksgiving dinner alone. Our whole lives Thanksgiving has been a day for large family gatherings. Just the two of us having Thanksgiving dinner was a surreal experience.
Today November comes to a close, and unbelievably the Christmas season is upon us. Notice my intentional use of the words “Christmas Season”, and NOT the “Holiday Season”. In three and a half weeks Christmas will be here and shortly thereafter the arrival of 2021. It has been quite a month, and quite a year. However, one thing remains true without fail. The Lamb is on the throne. I am thankful my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, does not change. We change, but He does not. No matter what happens, I have faith in a Sovereign God who is good all the time. His plan is perfect, and His will be done. I take comfort in that. It doesn’t really matter who the President is. It doesn’t really matter if we have to wear masks or not. It doesn’t really matter if it rains, snows, or the sun shines. Only one thing matters. We have a savior who died for us. We did nothing to deserve that kind of mercy or grace, yet Christ went willingly to the cross on our behalf. This is a free gift. We didn’t earn it. We could never be good enough to earn it. It was given to us. Sinners all! What a glorious thought. Jesus loved us enough to give His life for us when we deserved nothing but punishment and wrath. That’s where my focus is today as November comes to a close. Not on the matters of this world, but on the matters of perfect paradise where there will be no more pain, stress, suffering, anger or tears.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to the ways of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
