It's no secret. I do not like Halloween. It's not something I can explain and I've never been able to quite put my finger on it. I have felt this way since I was a small child. It really is one of the worst days, if not the worst day of the year. And for the record, I disliked Halloween long before I became a teacher and my students acted wildly on this "holiday". So Happy Halloween everybody (I guess). November can't get here fast enough.

No Spring Chickens
Tami and I have been married for 28+ years. We have raised three children together. We have experienced the myriad peaks and valleys that everyone goes through in a long marriage. As we now inhabit the empty nest, we realize with each passing day that we are getting older. We do not hide from the the fact that we are reaching the back half of middle age and will be senior citizens in the blink of an eye. We embrace our age, and are thoroughly enjoying growing old together. We aren't enjoying watching (and feeling) our bodies fall apart, but we are enjoying our time as an "old married couple". Tami often laments her aging skin and other parts of the natural aging process. I tell her she is more beautiful today than she ever was before, but she doesn't believe me. I don't blame her. I miss my 25 year old skin and body too. In the end, there is nothing we can do about it. In God's grand and perfect plan, our bodies are not designed to last. We all break down and we all grow more feeble with each passing moment. Let's face it, we're no spring chickens anymore. But hey, spring chickens don't have as much fun either.

Go Away!
The word on the street is that Hillary Clinton may try to garner the nomination as the democratic presidential candidate. One one hand I would enjoy watching President Trump send her to her third defeat. On the other hand, I just wish she would go away.

The Change
Tami has been suffering greatly with hot flashes for a long time. The temperature swings have been frequent and extreme. Burning up followed by freezing and shivering. The poor thing doesn't sleep well and is rarely comfortable. To her credit, Tami handles all of this like a champ. Other than her face turning red, you'd never know she was flashin' Bless her heart! I can't imagine going through all of that!

Scary!
There is a tourist attraction in Niagara Falls, Canada called Nightmare Fear Factory. It's basically a haunted house that people walk through and get startled out of their wits. The highlight of the trip through the haunted house is a place where "something" scares people to death and they are photographed at that same moment (It's similar to the photos taken on the first drop of roller coasters). Anyway, it's a closely guarded secret as to what the "something" is that scares people for the photo. After some research and detective work, I have solved the mystery of what it is that is scaring people so badly.
Here's the scary sight:

Pure Evil
I recently read a story about a woman who got mad at her husband. To get revenge she dumped water on the floor in front of the dishwasher and told him it was leaking. At last report he had spent two hours looking for the nonexistent leak and had nearly torn the whole thing apart.
I don't know what he did to ruffle the hen's feathers, but I don't think it warranted anything like THIS. That's evil. Just pure evil!

Impending DOOM!
I know it's only October, but the slight chill in the air is a foreshadowing of the gloom and doom to come. Beware... winter crouches at the door ready to pounce like a ravenous lion on a piece of meat!

You lose!
I don't think Papa John's is in much danger of losing any money this year. Bengals lose, Papa John's wins!

Good night!
Here is a picture of my bed, uh, I mean recliner. My sweet mother-in-law made a chair cover for me. I fall asleep in this chair every night. This cover just makes it extra warm and comfy. Thanks, Nancy! I love it!

Another milestone!
Silence Runs Deep reached yet another milestone yesterday. This blog eclipsed 90,000 page views. That number boggles my mind. People have actually taken the time to click on my blog over 90,000 times. Next stop... 100k.

Very Punny!
Credit where credit is due. I got this one from my wonderful son-in-law, Thomas.
Why do Norwegian warships have bar codes on their sides?
So when they return to port they can "Scandinavian".
Haha!

Different Views
Here's another perk to Tami's job. In the first photo check out the view she enjoys as she eats her lunch. Picturesque to say the least. Contrast that with the second photo which is the view I get from my classroom. Am I jealous? What do you think? Heck yeah, I'm green with envy

Perks!
One of the perks of Tami's job is free admission to all Answers in Genesis properties. Today we decided to spend this beautiful day at the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky.

It was 25 years ago today. The date was October 9th, 1994. I received word that my Grandpa Meyer died. I was relieved because he had been suffering so much. When I heard of his death, I knew his suffering was over.
Michael was born on October 20th, 1993. Grandpa was nuts over him because he was the first male great-grandchild and would carry on the family name for another generation. As Michael's first birthday approached grandpa vowed to attend the party no matter how sick he was. He didn't make it. He died 11 days before Michael turned one.
I had a very special relationship with him and I miss him a lot.

Congressman
Look who visited my school last week. Yep! That would be congressman Steve Chabot. I guess he's trying to reach his voters at a very young age! Sorry for the blurry photo.

This is a BIG day!
Today is a BIG day in the Meyer family. This morning my, lovely, intelligent, wonderful wife starts a new job. She has been hired to work at Answers In Genesis (AIG) in customer service. She will work in the offices of the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky. This is a full time position with full benefits. She is very excited to get started, but understandably also a little nervous. I know she will do great, but it's difficult to start a brand new job, in a brand new place, with a bunch of people you don't know. She is eager to work in this ministry and looks forward to furthering the Kingdom and glorifying God in her work.
By the way... this is the same ministry that operates the Ark Encounter in Williamstown, Kentucky. However, they are two separate museums.
All this adds up to big changes for Tami and Me. We've only been empty nesters for a little over a year, and we were just starting to to get used to it. Now Tami has switched from part-time to full time work. She hasn't worked full time for many years and it's going to be quite a transition. So many things will be different. Our sleep schedule will change, our grocery shopping and meal preparation will change. Everything you can think of in a married couples' life is going to change. We are up to the challenge, but we are going to need some time to adjust to all these changes.
Please pray for Tami as she enters this new phase of her life, and as our life takes on drastic changes.

I'm in!
Tomorrow is Mr. South's day! Count me in! I'm going to send him a birthday card. It's the least I can do for a member of the greatest generation.
