This is a big day for my daughter, Abby. She recently made the very grown up, mature decision to leave school and take a full time job. She did not leave school for lack of success. On the contrary... in her one year of college, Abby made the Dean's list and was selected as President of the student government. So why leave school? The answer is simpler than you might think. College is expensive and Abby found that paying tuition, getting a degree and working toward a career did not mesh with her life goal of being a stay at home mom and housewife. These are noble aspirations toward a job that the world has come to regard as unimportant or for the uneducated. Neither of those could be farther from the truth. My eldest daughter is a wonderful mom and wife who home schools her kids. Abby wants to be just like her big sister in this respect.
Now that I've said that, Abby starts her full time job today. She will be working in client services in a medical laboratory in Blue Ash, Ohio. She will be making a very nice starting hourly wage as well as receiving full benefits (medical insurance, dental insurance, vision, and a 401k). There are also opportunities for bonuses and advancement in the company. I'd say this is a decent place for an eighteen year-old to start. Abby has joined the workforce in the big, bad world. She will learn a lot of things really fast. Some of these things will be good and some of them will not. We all know that life lessons will come hard and fast for her in the workplace. She has gone and grown up on me and now she gets the chance to show the world what she's made of.
You go get 'em, Abby! The world will never be the same! I am so proud of you!
