Kindergarten Rules

Everything I ever needed to know I learned in Kindergarten. Apparently CNN White House reporter, Jim Acosta must have missed a lot of days during his year in Kindergarten. In fact, sometimes he acts like he is STILL in Kindergarten.

Marriage

Marriage is the most sacred, most beautiful of all relationships among human beings. Put two sinful people under the same roof. These two people love each other more than anything else in the whole world. They spend every waking moment together. Most of the time they love being together, but sometimes they can drive one another absolutely crazy. Mix in some sinful, strong willed kids with minds of their own and you have the recipe for years and years of excitement.

Marriage is funny, isn't it? It's full of peaks and valleys (mostly peaks in my case). It's simultaneously the most wonderful yet sometimes most painful thing you'll ever go through. I love my marriage and I dearly love my wife. I wouldn't trade one minute of it for anything.

Here are some thoughts of others on marriage. Enjoy!

13 years

It seems hard to believe, but as of this past Sunday, we have lived in Hidden Valley Lake for 13 years. What's even harder to believe is that we've lived longer in our current home than the one in Finneytown, Ohio (and it seems like we lived there FOREVER). It seems like just yesterday we were packing up our things at the house at 8719 Constance Ln. and moving to the other side of the world on Lakeview Dr. Up to that point I had always been a Buckeye, but on that day back in 2005 I became a Hoosier. I'm still kind of a Buckeye at heart, but I sure do love living in Indiana. I guess I'm kind of a "Hoosieye".

At any rate... life marches on. We left the home in Finneytown where the kids essentially grew up and upgraded to a home in beautiful Hidden Valley Lake. Now Tami and I find ourselves alone in an empty nest. We are already starting to talk of and dream about our retirement. Where will we go from here? When do we leave Hidden Valley? When I retire? When the steps in the house become too much for us? Will we relocate to be near our grandchildren? Will we migrate to a warmer climate? All questions that remain to be answered. However, one thing is certain. We will go where our sovereign God takes us. A man plans his way, but the Lord guides his steps. Proverbs 16:9

Boom! Pow! Bang!

Have you ever heard of onomatopoeia? It's a word that describes a sound. Boom! Pow! Bang! Pop! Buzz! Zing! Well, you get the idea. Now that you know what onomatopoeia is, maybe you can chuckle along with me as you look at the cartoon below.

Secret Santa

Thanksgiving is over and the Christmas season is upon us. This means it's the time for buying gifts and participating in Secret Santa. I'm not a fan of either of those things. The Christmas season should be about celebrating the birth of Christ and not about the commercialization that comes with buying and receiving gifts. Don't get me wrong. Gifts are fine. The problem arises when gifts become the focal point of Christmas rather than what's REALLY important.

Not as it seems

Things are not always as they appear. When is the last time your fast food meal looked like the advertisement? For me? NEVER!

Case is point...

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving, loyal blog readers. Enjoy time with your family today and remember to count your blessings. They are innumerable, but try counting them anyway. Meanwhile, Tami and I are gearing up to host a bunch of family members for dinner today.

Turkey

With tomorrow being Thanksgiving, I thought it might be fun to post some turkey humor.

The Torch

The torch has been passed! Michael has taken on the duties of putting up the Christmas tree and lights in his own home.

Backtrack with me for a moment. I used to put up a 7 ft. artificial tree, cover it with lights and let the kids put on the ornaments. Now that the kids are all married, Tami and I decided we no longer need a full size Christmas tree. We gave our tree to Michael and Lauren and have opted for a smaller, easier to put up, tabletop tree. The kids won't be coming to our house for Christmas this year, so our decorations promise to be minimal. Less work putting them up. Less work taking them down and storing them. Please understand... if the kids or grandkids were coming over at Christmas, we would deck the halls with boughs of holly and every other light and decorative item we could get our hands on. But why go to all that work for just the two of us? My house won't look like Christmas Central this year, and we are both totally okay with that. We will get plenty of Christmas cheer at other peoples' homes.

Here's our old tree which is now Michael and Lauren's new tree. They decorated it more beautifully than I ever did. Good job, you two! It looks great!

Plinko

Who among us hasn't watched "The Price is Right"? Stay at home moms, or kids staying home from school when they're sick... we've all watched people play their hearts out for overpriced prizes on which they have to pay exorbitant taxes. One of the most popular games on that gameshow is Plinko. Contestants drop plastic discs through a grid of metal pins and hope the discs land in slots at the bottom that yield big prizes. I couldn't help but see the slide below and think of some child bouncing to the bottom like a Plinko disc. Who designs this playground equipment? Who thinks, "Let's send kids down a slide and watch them ricochet all the way to the bottom?" The ridiculousness in the world blows my mind sometimes.

Due Process

Remember when Brett Kavanaugh was accused of sexual assault? The mainstream media and liberals immediately said they believed his accusers and that he was essentially guilty until proven innocent. One of those leading the charge against Kavanaugh was attorney Michael Avenatti. In an ironic turn of events. Mr. Avenatti was arrested for domestic violence last week. He allegedly beat his wife. Now all of a sudden the liberals want to talk about due process. They are screaming that Avenatti is innocent until proven guilty and that he deserves a fair trial. I agree. Mr. Avenatti is innocent until proven guilty and deserves to have his case heard in a court of law. Where were those screams when Kavanaugh was accused? Anybody? No answer? That's right. None of the liberals or mainstream media were screaming that Kavanaugh deserved due process. Double standard much, liberal democrats?

Here they come!

Here they come! They're almost here... the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner. And with the holidays comes family...
Just kidding, everybody. Looking forward to celebrating with you.
