Finished!

The floor phase of the remodel is finished. We are ultra pleased with it and are so happy to not be walking on subfloor anymore.

Teflon

The Clintons are made of teflon. It doesn't matter what they do... nothing sticks.

I'll just leave this here.

Progress!

The new floor is about 80% installed. The last little bit of the kitchen will be finished tomorrow (which explains why the refrigerator is in the middle of the room). We are looking forward to having the whole job finished by tomorrow evening. Here are a few photos of the progress so far. It sure beats the old, stained carpet.

Memorial Day- Part 2

The Mortons spent Memorial Day on the gulf coast of Alabama dodging tropical storm Alberto. Michael and Lauren came over for a swim in the Lago Vista Resort swimming pool, and Abby and Thomas took a dip as well. As one of the resort's chefs, I grilled hamburgers for everybody. It was a wonderful day made possible by the many sacrifices made by our veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces. Thank you for keeping us safe and fighting for our freedom!

Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day and I would like to thank those men and women who are currently serving in our armed forces. Thank you for protecting us, and for fighting to maintain the liberties and freedoms we take for granted. I would also like to thank the veterans who have served in the past and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice and gave their lives for our nation. Finally I would like to thank all family members who have served in the military, or are currently serving.

Marines-

Thomas Bell (my future son-in-law)
Harvey McSwain (second cousin killed in action in Vietnam)

Army-

Frank Bauer (my father-in-law)
Cliff Borges (my mom's husband)

Navy-

Dale Randall (my brother-in-law)
Dane Randall (Dales's son, currently serving)

Air Force-

Brad Bell (Thomas's father)

Thank you all!

Another dinosaur

Yes, pay phones are a thing of the past. How about this obsolete dinosaur? The good ol' cigarette lighter. Have you noticed cars are no longer manufactured with ash trays? And cigarette lighters are nothing more than power outlets for cell phone chargers and GPS units.

Pay Phones Part 2

On Wednesday I made a post about pay phones. Have a look at this photo. I seriously doubt the kids of this generation would know what this is...

Oh Happy Day!

At the end of work today, school's out for summer. I am trying to keep my giddiness in check, but it's a futile effort. After a year of being beaten down on a daily basis, I'm ready for a break! Oh happy day!

No Kidding!

You don't say! Journalism at its finest, folks. I'm in the wrong profession. Somebody got paid to do this...

Lago Vista

Lago Vista Resort is open for business for the 2018 summer season. Ha! Ha! Just kidding. Lago Vista Resort is what I call our backyard because it feels like we're always on vacation living in Hidden Valley Lake. We live on Lakeview Drive and in Spanish, Lago means lake, and Vista means view. I don' think this is proper Spanish grammar, but it works for me and I like the name.

But seriously... I opened the pool yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the water. It was relatively clear and not milky like it has been the last two years after first opening the pool. I hooked everything up, added chemicals, and fired up the pump. After a quick vacuum job, the pool will be ready for swimmers. Come on over and enjoy some time at Lago Vista Resort.

Pay Phone

Remember the country song, "Here's a quarter, call someone who cares!"? This song was an antiquated reference to pay phones and a time when it would cost 25 cents to make a call. In fact, I actually remember when pay phone calls were a dime. That's back in the days before people walked around with phones in their pockets. Pay phones were a very valuable resource. If you needed to call someone while you were "out", pay phones were the only way to do it. I also remember my parents making sure I had some change when I went out... just in case I needed to make a phone call or if there was some sort of emergency. Today pay phones are completely obsolete. I'm sure they have them around somewhere, but by and large they are not used anymore. I'm not even sure my kids would know how to use a pay phone if they happened upon one. It's funny how times change. It makes me wonder what will replace cell phones one day.

So true- Part 2

Hard to argue with this one.

So true!

This is so true! I don't mind my grass being a little high as long as my neighbor's is higher. As soon as he mows his, the pressure is on to mow my own lawn.

Growing up fast!

Guess who "graduated" from preschool? They grow up so fast! It's hard to believe Elliott will be in kindergarten next year.
Is this not one of the cutest things you've ever seen? Soooooooooo precious!

"I'm hot!"

"Common sense is not so common"- Author unknown

"Common sense is like deodorant. The people who need it most never use it"- Author unknown

I do not expect my students to be perfect and I do not expect them to be little Einsteins. However, I do expect them to use their brains, think for themselves, and use common sense. Forget about reading, writing, and arithmetic. If there's one thing students sorely lack nowadays it's the ability to think. Case in point... The weather has been in the mid 80's this week. It has been sunny, hot, and humid. I have students who are wearing sweatshirts outside at recess time. When these students come back inside the building they whine and complain about how hot they are. I am flabbergasted when I have to tell a ten year old to take off a sweatshirt in summer like conditions. This would not be an issue if the students were silly enough to wear sweatshirts in summer and did not complain. In that case I'd say, "Knock yourselves out!". But the fact is the same students who are wearing sweatshirts are the same ones asking me to turn on the classroom fan to help cool them down. Here's a novel thought. I'm just spitballin' here, but have you tried, oh I don't know, maybe tried TAKING OFF YOUR SWEATSHIRT WHEN IT'S NEARLY 90 DEGREES OUTSIDE????????? Come on, man! THINK! Surely you (as a 10 year old) have enough sense to remove an article of clothing meant to keep you warm when you're hot! THINK! It's not rocket science! Step one--- I'm hot. Remove all clothing that school rules allow. Step two--- Sit still and let your body cool down. Step three--- Drink some water. It doesn't seem that tough to me, but no matter how hard I try, I cannot get these kids to stop wearing sweatshirts at recess in sweltering heat. I'm fighting a losing battle.

Wedding Diet

I am now officially on "Operation Wedding Diet". When I walk Abby down the aisle in August, I don't want everyone in the church to see my belly before they see her. I've already lost 9 pounds, but I have a long, long way to go. Years of bodily neglect cannot be reversed in just a few weeks.

So I ask... why, oh why must people put photos like this on the internet? Does this look INCREDIBLE, or what? Yum!

Stainless Steel

Tami and I just purchased new appliances. We considered stainless steel, but in the end decided against it. I think we made the correct choice. I have heard about smudge proof stainless steel, but I'm not sure I believe it. This photo likely supports my belief.

Here Fishy Fishy!

Michael and Lauren have an apartment that is adjacent to a pond. The pond is literally 5 feet out their back door. Just like any self respecting Meyer man, Michael is taking full advantage of the situation and fishing (lucky little whippersnapper!) Yesterday he used a yellow shyster spinning lure to catch a war mouth, and a largemouth bass. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?

The days of the week

Have you ever wondered how the days of the week got their names? They are actually rooted in mythology.

Sunday- This is an easy one. Day of the Sun
Monday- This one is easy too. Day of the Moon
Tuesday- Named after the Norse God, Tiw (pronounced "too"). Tiw's Day
Wednesday- Named after the Norse God Woden. Woden's Day
Thursday- Named after the Norse God Thor. Thor's Day
Friday- Named after Norse God Odin's wife, Freya. Freya's Day
Saturday- Named after the Roman God Saturn. Saturn's Day.

Why this talk of the names of the days of the week? Because of a signboard I saw at the Lawrenceburg Burger King. It said they would be doing job interviews on Wensday. They spelled it exactly as we say it--- Wens-day. Look, people. I realize that of all the days of the week, Wednesday is the one most difficult to spell. I mean, let's face it. Nobody says Wed-ness-day. But c'mon! No matter how weird of a word it is, don't you think people would see it in print enough to know how to spell it? W-E-D-N-E-S-D-A-Y.

He got pinned!

Michael had his pinning ceremony last night. This is a tradition in nursing schools that goes back to Florence Nightingale. He does have two more classes this summer to complete before he earns his RN. He was permitted to participate in the ceremony anyway. We are proud of this guy!

Concentrate!

I was disappointed. This cheese was not entertaining at all.
I stared at the frozen orange juice because it said "Concentrate"--- Jeff Foxworthy

Teacher Appreciation

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

When I walked into school today, this is what greeted me. The "powers that be" decided to go with a beach theme this year. Teachers and students alike will be wearing leis today. It sure puts me in the mood for a vacation.
